Pre-flight - JFDI Outing #1 - Sept 6, 2026
My kit is newly revamped and, I think, locked in for a while. I am about 98% committed to not buying anything else that can’t be called a consumable. I’m sure I’ll do a midweek post soon enough talking about it. For now, we can just say it fits really well in my restrapped Frost River XL Shell Bag, and so far that is comfortable to carry. Real woods time will tell. All I know for sure: I have let kit optimization stand in for using things for far too long. More about that later as well.
I have to get a haircut this morning and see if I can start to clean up some of the mess in my potential new home office. I can’t start the process of migrating from my subterranean, pandemic-with-both-kids-still-in-the-house-era workspace until I purge the room of the leftover slob-matter that is the sign of my daughter’s nesting for a while. (Does she really not know to wash dirty socks? I mean, what the hell…) Later, I am going with my wife to look at paint swatches today like they are the whole mission. She needs to tell me what I like so I get it right, as my understanding of these matters extends only so far. Times do change, it seems…
